Famous Literary Character – Romeo Montague

Romeo Montague – “I take thee at thy word. Call me but love, and I’ll be new baptized. Henceforth I never will be Romeo.” – An excerpt from the Shakespeare’s play – “Romeo and Juliet”

Romeo Montague became an icon, an inspiration for countless lovers round the globe. Shakespeare’s protagonist “Romeo Montague” is a star-crossed lover who dares to love the daughter of his father’s rival.

Especially the romantic dialogue spoken between Romeo and Juliet in the balcony is regarded as one of the most romantic scenes in the history of literature. Even though Romeo makes several attempts to make a peace with Capulets, all his efforts go in vain when his friend is murdered by Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt. What happens next is series of violent incidents which changes the destiny of Romeo and his love mate Juliet.

The role of Romeo was portrayed by actor Leonardo Di Caprio in the 1996 Hollywood movie – Romeo and Juliet. I considered Romeo as the best literary character in the history of literature. Hope you liked this article
