Christian Bale – The man behind the bat mask

Year 2005 was the rise of a powerhouse actor who not only gave a new lease of life to the batman movie series, but also made the superhero more realistic with a convincing performance. The actor was none other than Christian Bale. The way he took batman’s role to the next level with his commendable performance is really worth appreciating, marvellous as well as inspiring.

The earlier movies of batman in 90’s era looked comical and lacked the substance of reality and this is where Christian Bale and director Christopher Nolan made the batman movies reflect reality. When I saw the first look of Batman Begins, I was really convinced that this is the super hero the world was really waiting for. If Christopher Reeves immortalized “Superman”, then Christian Bale gave a new edge to this comic hero by physically and mentally training for this role. “Batman begins” chronicles the journey of Bruce Wayne, the billionaire who turns into a dark knight to seek justice for the innocent and vanquish crime, injustice and corruption from the gotham city.

The movie “Batman Begins” was not only a commercial success, but also boosted the career of Christian Bale. Christian Bale teamed up again with director Christopher Nolan for the second time in the sequel “The Dark Knight”. In the movie “Dark knight”, Batman has to face the most deadly adversary – The Joker who has plans to destroy Gotham city and how he brings Joker to justice has been shown very interestingly in the movie. The role of Joker was played by late actor Heath Ledger and Christian Bale took the award for this late legendary actor “Heath Ledger”.

Apart from Batman movie series, Christian Bale also earned an oscar award for his role in the movie “The Fighter” and delivered a memorable performance in movies like “3:10 to Yuma”, “Terminator Salvation”, “The Fighter”, “The Public enemies”, “The Flowers of war”, “The machinist”, “The prestige”, “Reign of fire” and “New World”.

Christian Bale debuted at the age of 14 in the television movie “Anastasia: The Mystery of Anna”, followed by “Empire of Sun” which was directed by Steven Spielberg. “Empire of the Sun” gave him popularity as a child actor and he later went on to act in several movies like “Treasure Island”, “Little Women”, “Mary, mother of Jesus”, “Swing Kids” and “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin”.

Christian Bale donned the bat mask for the last time in the third and final chapter of Batman movie series – “The Dark knight rises” where Batman has to team with up mysterious Catwoman to stop terrorist Bane from destroying Gotham city.
Forthcoming movies – Actor Christian Bale will be seen in forthcoming Hollywood movie “Knight of Cups”, “American Hustle” and ‘The Last Photograph”.

This article is dedicated to one of my favourite actors – Christian Bale who inspired everyone that there is a superhero in all of us and we just have to find our potentials. Hope you all loved this article. Do comment.

  1. Dear prashant,
You write so well and also your to good about to choose character like Christian Bale.. I am expecting a social story more about the social activities…

  2. Christian Bale, for me, will always be the quintessential Batman/Bruce Wayne followed closely by Kevin Conroy’s voice work on the legendary Animated Series and Michael Keaton and Will Arnett (who gave the terrific voice of Batman in ‘The Lego Batman Movie’). As you said it right Prashant, just as we equate Christopher Reeve with Superman, we will always equate Bale with Batman.
While there is no denying the talent of actors who have played Batman before (Keaton, George Clooney and Val Kilmer are all solid actors with great films behind them), what made Bale so effective is because of his uncanny ability to sink into each and every role that he has played. He is a method actor of superlative skill and dramatic effect and he has proved that time and again.
A wholly deserving ode to one of the finest actors of this generation.

  3. Your review is a breathtaking compliment to the power house performer. I can’t imagine batman without Christian bale
